Volume Adjust

Increase or decrease the volume of an audio file by a fixed decibel gain. Useful for boosting quiet recordings or reducing loud audio to a comfortable level. SnapOtter processes the adjustment on your own server, keeping your audio private.

Features

  • Adjustable gain in decibels for precise volume control
  • Supports both positive (louder) and negative (quieter) adjustments
  • Clipping detection and prevention for over-amplified signals
  • Works with MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, and AAC formats
  • All processing runs locally on your server with no cloud uploads

What you can do

  • Boost the volume of a quiet phone recording to make it clearly audible
  • Reduce the volume of a loud music track before mixing it under narration
  • Normalize multiple audio clips to a similar volume level for a playlist
  • Increase the gain on a field recording that was captured too quietly

Self-hosted. Your files never leave your network.

SnapOtter runs entirely on your own infrastructure. Files processed with Volume Adjust are never uploaded to third-party servers. Deploy a single Docker container and process files with full privacy, no watermarks, and no usage limits. Open source under AGPL-3.0.

Frequently asked questions

Will increasing volume cause distortion?
SnapOtter includes clipping detection to warn you if the gain would cause distortion. Moderate boosts on quiet recordings are generally safe. If clipping occurs, consider using the normalize tool instead. Processing happens on your own server.
How is this different from normalization?
Volume adjust applies a fixed gain to the entire file uniformly. Normalization analyzes the audio and adjusts dynamically to reach a target loudness. Use volume adjust for simple corrections. Both tools run locally on your server.
Can I adjust volume for specific sections only?
This tool adjusts the volume of the entire file by a fixed amount. For section-specific changes, trim the file first, adjust each part, then merge. All processing happens on your self-hosted instance.
