Frequently asked questions
- Does extraction re-encode the audio?
- By default, SnapOtter copies the audio stream directly without re-encoding for maximum speed and quality. If you choose a different output format, re-encoding is applied with high-quality settings. Everything runs on your server.
- What audio format should I choose?
- MP3 is the most compatible, WAV and FLAC are lossless, and AAC is efficient for mobile. Choose based on your use case. Direct copy preserves the original format and quality. All processing happens locally on your server.
- Can I extract audio from any video format?
- SnapOtter supports MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, and AVI containers for audio extraction. As long as the video has an audio track, it can be extracted. Processing runs entirely on your self-hosted instance.
