Frequently asked questions

How do I check the DPI of an image?
Upload the image and look for the DPI/PPI field in the metadata panel. For print, 300 DPI is standard. Web images are typically 72 DPI. Note that DPI is a metadata flag, the actual print quality depends on pixel dimensions and print size.
What is the difference between EXIF and IPTC metadata?
EXIF contains technical data from the camera (settings, GPS, date). IPTC contains editorial data (caption, keywords, copyright, credit). Both are embedded in the image file but serve different purposes.
Can I see where a photo was taken?
If the image has GPS coordinates in its EXIF data, SnapOtter displays the latitude and longitude. Most smartphone photos include this data unless the user has disabled location services for the camera app.
