Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between embedding and burning subtitles?
Embedded subtitles are stored as a separate text stream that viewers can toggle on or off. Burned subtitles are rendered into the video pixels permanently. Embedding preserves flexibility. Both options process locally on your server.
Does embedding subtitles re-encode the video?
No. Embedding muxes the subtitle stream into the container without touching the video or audio tracks. This means zero quality loss and fast processing. Everything runs on your own server.
Will the subtitles work in all players?
Most modern players (VLC, MPV, web browsers) support soft subtitles in MP4 and MKV containers. Some basic players may not display them. SnapOtter processes everything locally so your content stays private.
