AI Colorization

Convert black-and-white photographs to full color using AI colorization. The model understands natural colors for skin tones, vegetation, sky, fabrics, and common objects. Process historic family photos, archival images, and grayscale scans.

Features

  • Deep learning colorization trained on millions of images
  • Natural skin tones, vegetation, sky, and fabric colors
  • Works on photos, scans, and grayscale images
  • Batch colorize entire photo collections
  • 100% local processing, no cloud required

What you can do

  • Bring old family photos to life with realistic colorization
  • Colorize archival and historic photographs for presentations
  • Add color to grayscale scans for visual impact
  • Preview what a space or object might look like in color from B&W reference images

AI that runs on your hardware. No cloud APIs, no usage limits.

Unlike cloud AI services, SnapOtter's AI Colorization runs the ML model directly on your server. Your images are processed locally with no data sent to external APIs. No per-image fees, no rate limits, no privacy concerns. Deploy once with Docker and use it as much as you need.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is AI colorization?
The AI produces plausible, natural-looking colors based on context (sky is blue, grass is green, skin has warm tones). It cannot know the exact original colors of specific objects like clothing, so some details may differ from reality.
Does it work on any black and white photo?
It works best on clearly exposed photos with recognizable objects. Very dark, very faded, or heavily damaged photos may produce less convincing results. Consider using the photo restoration tool first for damaged images.
Can I colorize multiple photos at once?
Yes. Upload a batch of B&W images and they will all be processed. Each image is colorized independently based on its own content.
